In Tales of Nevriande, we allow members to create their own lore or ask questions specifying certain lore mechanics in our roleplay universe. Any of this information be written and stored here as an information resource. Anything from very niche, specific questions to broad general concepts that can't be found in the other sections on this site can be found here, and members can request that the admins write, explain and elaborate here! This information is organized into general categories to explore.

Riverstead - painted stones.

Singing - Howling and roaring can be considered a form of singing but it is not always considered singing! Just like how talking can be normal or melodic, charactes in Nevriande can sing traditionally with their speaking voice or via animal noises.
Medicinal - The level of medicine in ToN is very dependent on the character and their resouces and opinions. Some may believe in more refined chemical tinctures while others may be more fond of naturalistic solutions. A complete guide can be found here (tba)! Small minor surgeries are possible, typically left to felines with more dexterous and pointed claws.
Kissing - The canon description of kissing when it comes to the creatures of this roleplay is as follows; lips gently parted with the tongue poked out slightly, just beyond the front teeth. Animals will bring their tongues together to act as a sort of pursed lips touch.
Birds & The Bees - While we DO NOT allow ANY type of NSFW roleplay, these animals are still adults and have relationships with one another. When it comes to characters, all uncomfortable / forced breeding anatomy is considered non-existent in this universe so that isn't a concern. Additionally, Nevriande is a sex positive society. Being provocative and having many partners or conversely being abstinent or having no partners at all is not viewed poorly by social standards. Having casual relations is as acceptable as saving ones self for partnership. Gender and sexuality is an accepted spectrum; no one is automatically considered straight, essentially. Typically standards for ideal relationships (marriage, children, sexuality) are on a family-by-family basis, but acceptance is the general standard.

Nevriande has a rich culture of tradition, folklore and legends. Many stories of strange occurrences or creatures or godly intervention are recorded in logbooks; though none confirmed.
Aelwyd's Lavender Meadow Origins - Aelwyd, great, mossy goddess of the earth, did much traveling in the early days of the continent. For this particular story, some say she traveled abroad to another realm, one blushing purple with dusk; others say she simply traveled to some faraway land where the sun always hung on the bruised cusp of day and night, and flowers bloomed purple over the landscape. Regardless, it is said that she returned to Nevriande after this journey and nestled within one of the Greenwood’s valleys to sleep, lichen dripping from her antlers, purple flower petals from this faraway dusk-place tumbling from her pelt in slumber. When she arose the next morning and shook herself awake, the rest of the petals and seeds shook loose from her coarse fur. Thus were the seeds sown for the lavender meadow that is nestled within the Greenwood, whose flowers still blossom today in soft purple. (Legend courtesy of fawned)
Masked Jester - There was once a Skyheimr jester named Voya, a pale panther known for wearing decorated masks during her performances. She rarely took them off, and no one ever saw her true face. When she suddenly vanished for weeks, authorities struggled to report her disappearance. When she returned, she claimed to have been away visiting family but her behavior had changed. One day, after being knocked into a stall at the market, her mask fell off, revealing a decayed corpse underneath. Without her mask, all life seemed to drain from her. Clerics burned her body but her masks wouldn’t burn. They were buried in Mountain Vale, hidden away forever. (Legend courtesy of majesty)
Fishing Legend - "Death by shore, fish no more" ; A well-known cautionary tale among fishers: if a dead fish surfaces beside your boat/dock, one that you know was not caused by your own activities, leave the area immediately. The tale originated after an epidemic of deaths caused by accidentally poisoned fish. Now, sailors will claim that it is a warning of anything from a coming storm to a maritime banshee. (Legend courtesy of endless)
Seagull Omen - A gathering of seagulls is a good omen to sailors. As bothersome as they can be, it is believed that seagulls can lead the way to bountiful fishing groups and even scare away evil spirits with their dark beady little eyes. (Legend courtesy of endless)
Frog Toe Marsh - In the densest marsh lands of Nevriande, full of trees with long spindly roots, legend has it that the trees walk around at night. When the air is still, you could hear the muck sloshing around with movement. If you're alone, one of those roots might tangle themselves around you and drag you back into the swamp with them. (Legend courtesy of majesty)
Cryptids
Bigtooth - Local legend tells of a large creature rumored to be prowling the mountains and/or forests of Nevriande. It is described as a feline the size of a buffalo with giant fangs nearly two feet in length. (Legend courtesy of mars)
The Itch - Around Greenwood, there's been some sightings of a gangly fleshy creature roaming around. Dubbed the Itch by those who've seen it, the creature is described to be tall with thin limbs and a furless body with large black eyes and a slender face. (Legend courtesy of majesty)
The Moontouched - Fae-like wolves who are rumored to be smaller than average with pale shimmery fur, very round opalescent eyes, wings and only appear at night. It is written that if you meet one and speak of your interaction that it leads to sickness, misfortune or even death. Superstitious individuals may carry around opals or necklaces with the moon etched into them to ward off these fae. (Legend courtesy of hypo/mars)
Illness & Sickness - There are strains of illness that are known to spread through Nevriande depending on the season. Pathogens are most active in winter months. Most are non-lethal if one is able to take good care of themselves, though immunocompromised, young or elderly animals are susceptible to succumbing to the fatigue and famine that comes with the flu.
Denfever - Canine - Symptoms include fever, weakness, sneezing, dizziness, fatigue, overall flu-like symptoms.
Whisker Flu - Feline - Symptoms include fever, insatiable cold chills, whisker sensitivity, fatigue, muscle weakness, coughing.
Moonmadness - Canine & Feline - LETHAL IF LEFT UNTREATED - Symptoms include blood-shot eyes, paranoia/delusions, excessive drooling, aggression, insomnia, tremors, violent and/or catatonic states.
Can only be treated by a rare orange bioluminescent fungus known as "Amberglow" that grows in underground caverns. It is very rare and kept in reserves in Skyheimr.
