NPCS

Tales of Nevriande features NPCs scattered around different areas of the map. Created and played by the admins, these are characters who often are either required for a necessary function of a location, or who are there just for fun! You may have one-shots with these NPCs, invite them into your threads, or just mention them in passing irp. Whatever use you may have for them, they're here to enrich your roleplaying experience! The ones with a star symbol beside their name are even adoptable; contact an admin if interested! (Please keep that some NPCs that are available for adoption must stay in their fixed locations and duties.)

✰ Vari, the mountain hostess.
female spaniel mutt (she/her)

Tucked away into a small but quaint inn along the Northpeak mountains, an eccentric and young spaniel by the name of Vari runs The Goat's Horn inn. She is whimsical and charming hound, though slightly eccentric, and does her utmost to make sure her guests leave full of warm mead and with smiles on their muzzles. She often assists lost mountain travelers in their directions, and just before dusk will often roam the area around her home to ensure any lost or injured stragglers don't get left behind once the night descends upon the mountain and its peaks.

✰ Jag, the mountain guide.
male wolfdog (he/him)

Jag roams the icy mountains hugging Wolf's Bluff. Scars litter his black pelt, as does an ever-constant scowl; however, despite his countenance and the areas he tends to haunt, the wolf has left the raider's life long behind him. Now he hunts solo through the mountain peaks, occasionally selling the meat and pelts of the yak and mountain goats he stalks. Considering the land he lives in is often a harsh and unforgiving one, Jag also acts much more than he'd like to as a reluctant savior to those who manage to get themselves lost in the snowy region he calls home. This also marks him as a tour guide of sorts, considering he often has to shepherd those he finds back towards civilization.

Pippin, the travel renegade.
female ocelot (she/her)

Despite her relatively short and stout stature, Pippin believes it her duty to guard the streets and pathways between her home in Northmaw and Skyheimr. Instead of helping defend the capital city, this annoying and surprisingly persistent little cat often only accomplishes harassing travelers flocking to and from the capital, and often gets in the way of the guards whose actual responsibility this is. Those traveling to and from Skyheimr had best beware; their fairly unremarkable journey may be interrupted by this feisty and round little ocelot, if they're not paying attention!

Lena, the trinket collector.
female coyote (she/her)

Lena is a grizzled old coyote who's rail-thin with notched ears, a crooked smile, and many stories to tell. This old girl is mischievous, still kicking after a lifetime of adventure and intrigue. She peddles a variety of oddities and strange wares; if you ask her how she got any of them, she'll surely tell you, though whether or not she's telling you the truth is up in the air. When she's not making trades, she's either chatting it up with the younger folk or on the move with her merchant's cart, hauled by her ox, Tiberius.

✰ Mika, the windmill trader.
non-binary bull terrier (they/them)

Mika dwells at the foot of an empty windmill, peddling their wares both outside at a small cart and with a shop set up in the windmill's interior itself. The terrier is of a fairly nervous sort, high-energy and fidgety, but they're also polite and aim to please, and are overall pleasant to be around. If you think their somewhat timid demeanor makes them an easy target to scam or get your wares from for cheap, watch out! Despite their somewhat anxious disposition, they're always ready to haggle, and are a notoriously shrewd businessperson. Travelers don't make detours from their routes to check out Mika's shop for nothing, after all!

Gus, the saloon owner.
male mastiff mutt (he/him)

Gus the mastiff is big, strong, and gruff-looking. However, rather than use this to his advantage and choose a career involving combat, Gus has chosen to dedicate his talents to the art of innkeeping. This sizeable fella is happy-go-lucky and kindhearted, something that travelers sorely need before they venture out into the desert, or after they return from it. Though some barkeeps run a tight ship, Gus... well, he's not one of them. He doesn't care too much what sorts of shady activities go on under his nose, long as they don't interrupt his business -- and when brawls and drunken outbursts tend to occur, the owner of Rattlesnake Saloon is more than happy to be in the middle of all the action, his booming laughter rattling at the floorboards.

Ulysses, the lighthouse keeper.
male taeral panther (he/him)

Along the beach that stretches between Honeyreach and Breakwater sits a little lighthouse, and attached to that little lighthouse is an inn, and in that inn is a Taeral. Ulysses is a middle-aged gentleman with spectacles perched atop his nose. He's a family man; his husband has unfortunately passed, but himself and his energetic bundle of cubs live in a collection of rooms perched above the inn's hustle and bustle. Ulysses is a quiet cat, calm and polite, and friendly in a more restful and soothing sort of way. He's attuned to his guests' every need, always there to tend to the whims of his visitors, sometimes even before they themselves know they need anything. Running both a lighthouse and an inn is hard work, but Ulysses, ever tireless, is up to the task with a gentle smile.

✰ Nero, the prison guard.
male scottish deerhound (he/him)

The prison is manned mostly by its head prison guard, a Scottish Deerhound named Nero. First assigned to the job as a strapping young hound, the canine is now up there in years, but he hasn't lost any of the diligent spirit that earned him his role in the first place. Day in and day out, Nero stands at attention at his post with narrowed, cautious eyes, always ready for trouble, and with a sword strapped at his hip. Of course, the old boy has to sleep sometimes; unfortunately for thieves, raiders, and bandits, he's a very light sleeper. Nero does his utmost to politely tend to those in the prison but he's never really been able to keep his suspicious nature out of his interactions.

Seer, the pious recluse.
male red fox (he/him)

Seer is a very odd fellow, choosing the live away from civilization due to social outcast due to his mange and deformities. He prefers it this way, though, and often greets visitors in a stoic manner due to his lack of socialization. He maintains the shrine, the arguably most spiritual location in all of Nevriande where visitors in great need may travel to offer gifts and hope to their desired god, depending on their need. Seer acts as a guide for the pious, often offering cryptic wisdom to push those looking for fate in the right direction. He rarely is found in any other location beside the shrine and never dallies on small talk. It is rumored by visitors that he can see spirits and ghosts with his right eye, but he's never commented on it.

Tselikovsky, the home bringer.
male leopard (he/him)

Tselikovsky is a feline of welcoming disposition and a generally friendly persona. He is generally not one that'll discourage newcomers from approaching him. He has a protective streak, which has proven to work well for him as he took up owning one of the most renowned orphanages in Nevriande. Good with children (and adults), he has dedicated his life to providing residency for those who need it. He owns The Robin's Nest, a location that acts as a hotel for lodging just as easily as it acts as housing for those without families. He is a large leopard who is afflicted with a loss of hearing, so he often communicates with other means. He has a fond love of bells, due to their shininess and the vibration they give off when ringing, and can often be seen carrying one around. Tsel used to be owned by @catnip.
